My Background and Professional History
I attended The University of Texas at Dallas where I earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology in 1993. After working with individuals with mental health needs and developmental disabilities for about ten years, I decided to return to school and ultimately earned Masters degrees in Human Sciences and Marriage and Family Therapy, and a certificate in Dispute Resolution and Mediation. I have also studied Music Therapy and Therapeutic Recreation.
Before entering private practice, I worked for Dallas area non-profit agencies providing counseling to adults, teens, and children in Domestic Violence-, Incest Recovery-, and Substance Abuse- Programs. I also worked for the Dallas Community College District as a Counselor, a Rehabilitation Specialist, and a Social Sciences Instructor.
I understand that clients come to therapy when they are at an impasse. For instance, they may be unclear about what life decision, or “path” to take next, or - in some cases- how to even take another step toward reaching their goals. I believe my role is to is to facilitate a therapeutic conversation in order to help people to more clearly visualize their goals and purpose, and to determine the best steps to take in order to achieve them. I have a strong belief in the concept of holistic healing - and the importance of addressing the physical-, mental-, emotional-, and spiritual needs of my clients.
I offer EMDR (Eye Movement Reprocessing and Densensitization), as well as Mediation services. EMDR is a scientifically-validated approach that can provide rapid relief from bodily disturbances and unpleasant memories, as well as an improved view of the self. Mediation is a cooperative and economical method of resolving conflict. (For more information, refer to the EMDR and Mediation sections under the Services tab on this website.)
Outside of counseling, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I have an awesome little dog, Ozzy, and I am a proud aunt. In my spare time, I enjoy relaxing at the lake, attending concerts, gardening, and cooking.
