Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating condition that follows a terrifying event. People who have PTSD often have one or more of the following symptoms:
___ Painful images, memories, or thoughts of the event
___ Distressing dreams of the event
___Times in which you feel as though you are reliving
the event
___ Being upset by something that reminded you of the
event
___ Avoiding thoughts, feelings, people, or places that
remind you of the event
___ Not being able to recall important parts of the event
___ Feeling distant or cut off from other people
___ Inability to access feelings of sadness or joy.
___ Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
___ Difficulty concentrating
___ Being hyper-vigilant or easily startled
Remember, only a qualified therapist or doctor can actually diagnose you with PTSD. Studies have shown that a
technique called Eye Movement Densensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can be very effective in reducing distressing symptoms related to PTSD. For some, relief can be achieved
within a few sessions. There is more information about how EMDR works in the "Services" section of this website. If you suspect that you have PTSD and would like to determine if you are a
good candidate for EMDR, contact Christy at (214) 699 7762.
